BOC Davao, NBI Tagum Bolsters Border Security Efforts, revisit talks about Love Scam Awareness

October 13, 202

The Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Port of Davao and the National Bureau of Investigation Tagum District Office (NBI-TAGDO) held a coordination meeting last Oct. 5 at Customshouse, Km. 10 Sasa Wharf, Davao City.

District Collector Erastus Sandino Austria shared several updates about the Bureau’s efforts to intensify border protection. Meanwhile, SA Reynaldo Villordon, Chief of NBI-TAGDO, cascaded their current initiatives to lessen the number of Customs Love Scam complaints. One initiative is the implementation of effective information dissemination through collaborative efforts with the BOC-Davao.

Furthermore, the BOC-Davao reminds the public that Love Scam is a deceitful scheme. Fraudulent individuals prey on victims by befriending them online and promising to send gifts and large amounts of money. Bogus receipts and fake package tracking numbers are also provided to the unsuspecting victims to make the scheme more believable.

The BOC reminds the public to be more vigilant against these scams. Before making any payment, we encourage recipients to inquire through our public assistance contact channels through telephone numbers (082 233-1258 or 0929-744-3588) In addition, victims of online scams are also advised to report incidents to the Cybercrime divisions of the Philippine National Police (PNP) or the NBI.

These are all under the Customs Commissioner Yogi Filemon Ruiz seven point priority programs to fully automate processes in creating ICT systems that can help curb the said scheme and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s drive to boost the economic performance of the country by eliminating online frauds that may be an impediment in the administration’s plans for a better and globally competitive Philippines.
