The Bureau of Customs (BOC), Port of Davao, has officially launched two (2) Fast Patrol Boats that will strengthen maritime surveillance of its areas of responsibility: Davao, Dadiangas, Parang, and Mati. On May 11, 2022, a launching ceremony at Lanang Aplaya, Lizada Drive, Davao City.
The Fast Patrol boats will be operated by personnel of the Water Patrol Division (WPD) under BOC's Enforcement Security System (ESS) and will strengthen security measures against illegal maritime activities. It also aims to strengthen ties with its partner enforcement agencies to prevent the entry of anti-social commodities into the Davao Region, Region XII, and parts of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao.
The patrol boats have a speed of 30 to 40 nautical miles per hour and can carry 10 passengers. It also has a gun mount and hard shields at the port and starboard of the vessel.
Present during the event were Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) – Coastguard District of Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM) Deputy Commander, CG Capt. Gary Dale C. Gimotea, Philippine Navy Commander, Allan B. Canaleja, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency XI (PDEA), Team Leader, Agent Marlaw Laurente, and Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), SPPI Michael Gregor Esquivel.
BOC Davao will continue to work closely with its partner enforcement agencies to carry out its mission under the guidance and leadership of its District Collector, Atty. Erastus Sandino Austria and the Customs Commissioner, Rey Leonardo Guerrero adhering to international best practices on revenue collection, border protection, and trade facilitation.
